Filtration, airflow and heat are the main considerations when designing a new intake system for a turbocharged engine.

Our do88 intake system is designed to provide good filtration and improved airflow to the turbo while maintaining low inlet temperatures. One design challenge for this B58 intake system is the location, it is right next to the exhaust manifold, which can quickly heat up that position in the engine bay.

High intake air temperatures are terrible for engine performance as the turbo would have to build boost pressure with hotter, less dense air. Therefore, a fully sealed intake system is the only way to ensure IATs are kept to a minimum. To prevent hot air from the air filter, we have designed a heat shield and caps that, together with rubber coatings, ensure our system supplies cool air to the engine. Our intake system utilizes the OE fresh air intake duct which supplies fresh air to the air filter.

To replace the OE plastic intake pipe, we designed a large 85mm (3.3") aluminum intake pipe that extends to 93mm (3.7") to the turbo intake pipe. We took no shortcuts when designing the intake pipe. We sourced the unusual size of 85mm for the correct internal diameter for the MAF sensor. Many competitors sell kits with 89mm (3.5") intake pipes which are easy to source. However, the risk with an 89mm pipe is that the MAF reading will be incorrect and therefore the fuel mixture will be lean. It is not uncommon to get a CEL (Check Engine Light) as a result. Our intake pipe has a large, specially designed air filter attached. The filter is made from tightly knit cotton gauze for superior filtration. The filter is of course washable and reusable for optimal performance and long life.

The original air box and turbo inlet hoses are designed with elements that minimize the noise generated by the turbo and air intake. In particular, the factory intake slang features a large muffler to ensure the turbo operates quietly. In contrast, our intake system does not have these noise reducing elements, so you can hear the turbo spooling and intake noise.

• We recommend cleaning the air filter every 10,000 km; please use a universal cleaning product specifically designed for cotton air filters. For example, you can use BMC washer fluid with the part number “WADET500”.
• 85mm (3.3″) aluminum intake pipe with the correct inside diameter for the MAF sensor. This will avoid you getting a CEL (Check Engine Light) that many competitor kits can cause.
